So after all the planning and saving, it finally came down to the day Cherie and I have been thinking about for a little while! It was a pretty surreal week leading up to to the flight to Bangkok as we both finished work and sorted out the final bits before 8 months travelling through South East Asia and then Southern Africa.
Two or three pre-packing attempts later and we had decided what was in and what was out for our big trip. Surprisingly both of us packed around 12kgs worth of stuff each and also a bit of room left in our rucksacks for bits and pieces along the way. Cherie's straighteners also made the cut too so those will come in useful I'm sure?!?! My rugby ball didn't make it in so Cherie may get away with not having to learn how to pass and kick it!
Kita kindly offered to take us to the airport and after saying bye to my mom and the house we excitedly set off for Heathrow. Another sad goodbye and then it was time to check in. There was a notice on the check in desk saying the flight was potentially over booked and if you were willing to go on standby if they would pay 600 Euro each to fly a day later. We signed up for it and were told we would only find out if we were flying or not when we actually go to board the plane, but thought either way if we fly then perfect and if we are taken off the flight and wait an extra day, we get a bit more money to add to the budget - win win! We sat down and had a burger and a beer and waited to board.
When our flight was called, we made out way across the airport and found out the flight wasn't over booked and we would fly today so we were happy we were still heading out (although I wouldn't have complained if i had 600 Euro to play with either)
The flight itself went quickly, I watched a couple of films and the food was pretty good on Jet Airways. We had a 2 hour stop over in Dehli then onto the next flight for the next 8 hr journey. For both flights, I had gone online and selected our seats early and managed to get the emergency exit seats for both. Having lots of leg room was a bonus and made it more comfortable to sleep.
